The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is a non-profit, self-regulatory body established in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). ESRB assigns computer and video game content ratings, enforces industry-adopted advertising guidelines and helps ensure responsible online privacy practices for the interactive entertainment software industry. 娱乐软件分级委员会(ESRB)是一个非赢利性的独立机构，由ESA创始于1994年。它的任务是在娱乐软件业的支持下，为互动娱乐软件产品制定一套标准的定级系统

　　为了获得等级认定，一个游戏发行商需要向ESRB提交非常完整的的关于游戏的图片和内容。然后三个评估人，根据评估标准进行独立的审核，最后推荐一个等级。如果所有的评估人达成一致，那么ESRB将把内容评价书通知游戏发行商。

　　当游戏正式发行以后，发行商需要给ESRB一份正式的版本。游戏的包装将被重新考虑，ESRB的专家将会玩这款游戏去保证所有的评估是完全正确的。

　　ESRB评估员的身份是值得信任的。这些定级者代表着具有广泛背景、种族和年龄层的玩家，并且与互动娱乐业无关。他们包括退休的学校校长、家长、专家和其它领域的个人。

　　ESRB定级的目的是为了向消费者提示互动视频或电脑娱乐软件的内容适合怎样的年龄层，而不是为了告诉消费者应该购买或租借怎样的产品，也不是作为选择产品的唯一依据。除ESRB等级外，消费者应该参考游戏的包装盒以获取更多的产品信息，并根据自己的口味和标准作出最后的购买或租借决定。

　　网站与包装盒的正面有ESRB的等级标志，这一标志显示了该游戏所适合的年龄段范围；

　　为了方便某些玩家去ESRB查询最新的游戏评级结果，介绍查询方法：

　　(2)看到查询界面（见右）；

(3)在"Search by publisher or title keyword"（搜索游戏出版商或游戏名称）下面的框内输入你想查询的游戏名称；

　　(4)然后点"Search"键就行了

　　注：本查询框只能输入游戏的英文名称，比如要查询《使命召唤:现代战争》就得在框里输入"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"，一个也不能落。

其中，Title意思为游戏名称；Publisher为游戏生产/发行厂商（公司或游戏工作室）；Content为游戏内容描述；Platforms为游戏操作平台。
