Croft Couture #28: Aurore
The Tomb Raider fandom is full of talented artists, entertainers, and perhaps most notably, phenomenal cosplay talent. “Croft Couture” aims to showcase these lovely and dedicated women, and give Lara costumers a spot to share their experiences while dressed as gaming’s leading lady.
Aurore has an impressive roster of video game heroines under her cosplay belt, but it was her “Dead Zone” Tomb Raider tribute that first put her on my radar! I give her bonus points for showing the silver screen ensemble some love in an appropriately snowy location. As always, photos above, interview below!

Q&A
What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?
I first saw the original Tomb Raider at a friend’s house when I was eight. It was the first time I’d seen a strong female character as a protagonist. I was immediately drawn in and bought my own copy, I’ve been hooked on Tomb Raider ever since.
I have always wanted to dress up as Lara at Halloween or a fancy dress party but I never had the confidence to do it until I met my best friend at University. She taught me about Cosplay and invited me along to a Con, seeing so many costumes and amazing people gave me the confidence to finally do it.
What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?
The classic outfit, it was my first ever attempt at Cosplay, so I kept it simple and recognizable.
What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?
The full Dead Zone outfit from the first Tomb Raider film.
What Croft costumes are still on your roster?
So many! I definitely have Underworld planned and I’m seriously considering a Reborn Lara as well as Lara’s Tokyo dress from Legend.
Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?
Lara’s Tokyo dress was going to be the second Lara outfit I would have done, but I had never made something from scratch before and I lacked a sewing machine. So unfortunately it defeated me, now that I’m a more experienced costume maker, it’s on my list of Cosplays to conquer.
Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?
There are two photoshoots that come to mind, the first being the one I did in the snow. I was climbing huge logs and kneeling all while wearing shorts and a crop top, I couldn’t help but think how Lara could do that for entire levels of a game because I was freezing!
The second is the most recent photoshoot I did, it was a round a con but there was an awesome water feature. So, to the photographer’s surprise, I instantly waded through the water without hesitation.
Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?
My parents used to live near the Pyrenees. I often visited and would go on long hikes on the mountain trails.
What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?
Cosplaying Lara has greatly influenced my life; it’s made me a stronger and more confident person. Not only that but her physical strength has inspired me to go the gym regularly to improve my strength and keep fit.
