Croft Couture #19: EMC IVY
The Tomb Raider fandom is full of talented artists, entertainers, and perhaps most notably, phenomenal cosplay talent. “Croft Couture” aims to showcase these lovely and dedicated women, and give Lara costumers a spot to share their experiences while dressed as gaming’s leading lady.
EMC’s incredibly accurate costumes and striking photos make her a spot-on classic Croft cosplayer. I can’t wait to see her pending Chronicles’ opera shots in particular - living in France should give her a slew of perfect locations to choose from. Photos above, interview below!

Q&A
What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you tocosplay as Lara Croft?
When I was little I watched my father play. I identified with Lara because she was a brunette and beautiful! I also share her love of travel, cultures, and mythology. The Tomb Raider community got me started in cosplay via forums and blogs. I started a blog on the world of Lara (EMC: In Fashion Croft), which is the origin of my nickname. Then I overcame my shyness. There was another trigger that got me started - it was an accident. I had to have surgery and could not move for one year. I was bored at home, I had difficulty walking, and I was on crutches at the beginning. Few people know that in my old photos I’m on crutches, and put them down for the photos. Some pictures I bandages my knees to hide the scars.
What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?
My first cosplay is the classic from Tomb Raider 2 & 3.
What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?
The classic! My favorite is the jacket from Tibet over the top.
What Croft costumes are still on your roster?
I finished the opera dress from Tomb Raider 5, which is ready and waiting for photos. I’m working on Reborn now, too.
Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?
Yes! Holsters and bags - I hate them! I pulled my hair out on them.
Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorablephotoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?
When on shoots I usually mark the area in case I happen to get lost, because most of the places are abandoned to avoid people. I’ve dressed as Lara wearing shorts in the snow, cold, heat, on slippery slopes, and so on. I’ve cut myself with vegetation and lost a gun in a river current. The water won!
Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?
I’ve been to Venice and loved it! I didn’t expect to be homesick so close to France. During my stay I believed I was in Tomb Raider 2. I regretted not bringing my outfit! I’d like to travel to the U.S. and Egypt!
What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?
Lara is a strong woman with a courageous and independent spirit. She is respected, and I want to be like that, it is the feminine ideal. She exudes class and impresses people with her culture and knowledge. I wish I had a job that involves travel and culture. It fascinates me but I keep it a hobby! I think Lara has influenced me in choosing my current job - I’ve used a 9mm in real life! I had a military rhythm and I was able to practice boxing and self-defense so yes, she has influenced me. She was a part of my childhood heroines, as well as the Disney Princesses. :P
